PLAY ME A SONG MUSIC PROGRAMS
Try the difference a group setting can make!
Introduce your child to the wonderful world of music by letting them try an instrument and learn alongside their peers. The emphasis in a Play Me a Song class is developing a life-long appreciation of music through pedagogically-sound instruction combined with positive social interaction, the camaraderie of one's peers, as well as a sense of discovery.
AND THE BEST PART FOR PARENTS....
We supply all the instruments! Which means, your child can truly TRY an instrument, before you go out and buy (or rent) one. Of course, home practice is recommended (and we definitely recommend it for optimum learning) ; but we KNOW children --especially younger ones ---are unlikely to practice. So although we encourage home-practice, we promise it will never become a discouraging (painful) issue for parents in Play Me a Song classes. Your child will simply have an enjoyable -and encouraging!- musical experience.

At the moment, all Play Me a Song classes are intended for a beginner or near-beginner students 13 and under. (The first 1-2 years of study on an instrument.) We are in the process of developing programs for more advanced and/or older students.
Classes are small (maximum of 4 students) -- so register early!
This is to ensure maximum learning for each individual while still getting all the benefits of a group class.

What will my child learn in a
Play Me a Song class?
Although the specifics of instruction is always based on the unique demands and capacities of each instrument (see individual descriptions of classes) ---as well as the developmental needs of different age groups--- there are some similarities between classes. All children in Play Me a Song classes will explore:

-
Ear-Training
-
Listening
-
Rhythm & Pulse
-
Dynamics
-
Pitch Awareness & Singing
-
Improvisation
-
Ensemble Playing
-
Solo playing
-
Reading standard musical notation (begins at age 7)

We also have recitals! Students (age 6+) may participate in our Friday live performance series, "Live @ The Roundabout" .

Play Me a Song classes allow your child to "try" a musical instrument and --all the classes are pedagogically-sound and build a strong musical and instrumental foundation ----will set them up well for more advanced studies with a private teacher in traditional music lessons later on.
A note about the age-overlapping in the classes
If your child is 4, 6, or 9 years old...... we strongly recommend they start in the youngest category available for that instrument. This way they are more likely to succeed and thus feel better about their musical adventures! We can easily move them UP to the next class, if the younger class is not suitable and the teacher feels they are developmentally and musically-ready for the next level. (This is why many of the classes are on the same day.)
